SEVENS FALL TO LEGENDS IN FINAL GAME OF ROAD TRIP

By Varun Raghupathi, 24/Sevens Insider

FRISCO, TX – The Delaware 87ers (22-20) ended their four-game road trip with a 131-92 loss to the Texas Legends (21-20) on Saturday night.

The 87ers got off to a good start by matching buckets with the Legends, whom Delaware will only face once this year. The first quarter ended with the teams knotted at 24-24. The next two periods proved to be all Texas, however. The Legends, the D-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, outscored the Sevens 70-41 across the second and third frames.

This one featured two players who brought better than two decades of combined NBA experience to the floor in Nate Robinson and Ben Gordon. The Legends’ Gordon delivered 24 points, while Robinson led all 87ers with 20 points.

One look at the shooting splits can help diagnose the final score. The Sevens shot 33 percent from the floor, including just 6-29 from three-point land. The 87ers did manage to go 18-22 from the free throw line, but it wasn’t enough. Texas, meanwhile, shot 52 percent from the field, aided by a ridiculous 20-40 showing from downtown. The Legends were also a solid 10-13 from the charity stripe.

Delaware gets some much-needed rest and returns home on Friday, March 17 to take on the Salt Lake City Stars when the team hosts Nickelodeon Night featuring Power Rangers. Sevens players will wear custom Power Rangers jerseys that will be available to fans in a silent auction to benefit March of Dimes, and the Pink Power Ranger will be in attendance.

The Jazz’s D-League club features former 87ers Brannen Greene and Brandon Triche. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.
